Despatch Rider Guidance

Despatch Rider Guidance

Despatch Rider Armbands to be worn when on duty only.

Worn by

Royal Signals Officers

Officers engaged on special duties with Army Signal Service

Royal Signals despatch riders

Other arms whilst employed on despatch rider duties

Please note: Clothing Regulations 1936 state without doubt that the armlet is to be worn on each upper arm.

However Dress Regulations (Officers) 1934 state "blue and white armlet" with no mention of how many to be worn.

We do have conflicting information which states quite clearly that this was to be worn on both arms and as the purpose of the armlet was to allow communications personnel to be readily identified allowing messages to be speedily relayed without undue delay it would be logical to assume Officers would indeed wear these on both arms.
